The Myanmar Military Council arrests an employee of OGT company in Kyauphyu

(About 15 gunshots were heard from the military camp)

AB News: July 14, 2024

 An OGT (Onshore Gas Terminal) company employee from Malakyun Village, Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State was arrested by the soldiers of the Myanmar Military Council and taken to its camp. Residents said that they heard about 15 rounds of gunshots shortly after he was taken to the camp.

The arrested person was Ko Kyaw Naing Moe, 35 years old, from Gonechwai group, Malagyun village in Kyaukphyu Township, an employee of OGT Company.

On July 12, at around 7:30 p.m., he was arrested at the Military Council checkpoint, on the highway along with 2 adolescent boys from Malagyun village who went to sleep in a paddy field hut. The 2 boys with him managed to escape.

One villager told AB News that a few minutes after Ko Kyaw Naing Moe was taken to the camp, he heard about 15 rounds of firing arms.

“It is reported that 10 members of the Military Council arrested him at the checkpoint. No later, Kyaw Naing Moe was captured, and then about 15 gunshots were heard from the camp. I don’t know if he was shot dead,” he said.

A vendor selling goods in the market in Kyaukphyu town was also arrested by the military council accusing him of selling goods to the rural villages.

In addition, it is also learned that on July 12, U Wai Maung Thein from Zeditaung Ward, Kyaukphyu town, near Aung Zedi Village, while he was picking mushrooms, stepped on a landmine and his left leg was cut off.

In Kyaukphyu Township, although there has not been a serious battle between AA and the military council, the military council has completely blocked the entry and exit of people in Kyaukphyu township and villages under the township.
