Villagers told AB News that yesterday, June 9, the mutilated corpses of an elderly man and his grandson, who were left in the village as they were unable to walk when a battalion of the military council entered Tharyar Gone village in Maungdaw Township.
The corpses found in the village were those of 14-year-old Maung Than Ree S/o U Maung Hla Rhee and 78-year-old U Cha Bu Aung, from Tharyar Gone village.
U Cha Bu Aung’s body was found as a form of skeleton, and Maung Than Ri’s body was mangled and damaged.
On June 2nd, at around 2:00 p.m., when the military council (Myanmar Border Guard Division 2) battalion stationed 4 miles away from Maungdaw City, entered the village of Tharyar Gone, almost all the villagers fled in fear, but a 78-year-old elderly man who could not walk and his grandson remained in the village, according to one villager.
“When we found that the army (military council) was marching toward the village, all the villagers ran away for a safer place. But, the grandfather and grandson who could not even walk were left there. We were fighting so that we could not return to the village. This morning, I went in and found them dead,” he said.
In addition, a young monk remained with the principal monk of the Buddhist monastery in the village that day, and 2 of them were also still missing without any trace, the villagers said to AB News that the military council might have arrested them.
“On that day, the principal monk and his young novice stayed in the monastery without fleeing away. We could not find them and they had gone missing without leaving any traces. I think the army has picked them up” he added.
Yesterday, on June 9, when the villagers went to take the corpses lying in the village and tried to organize a funeral of them, the soldiers of the military council who were stationed in a bush next to the village opened fire and they were unable to bury them, the local villagers further added.
Currently, in Maungdaw Township, the Arakan Army is attacking to capture all the remaining bases of the Military Council, also clearing the Muslim militant ARSA, RSO, and ARA groups.
