The junta’s allegation that drugs seized on MV. Sein Pyit Min bound for Sittwe from Yangon were to be delivered to AA was a mere political foul play and a politically-motivated attack on AA, Arakan Army responded.
When a cargo ship named “MV. Sein Pyit Min moored at Pier No. 2 in Bayint Naung Port, Mayangone Township, was searched, one million pink methamphetamine pills labeled WY, estimated to be worth about MMK 1 billion, were found inside cardboard boxes, reported by media agencies that usually spread the military propaganda.
Arakan Army’s spokesperson, U Khaing Thu Kha, said that the baseless allegation was yet another political foul play or desperate underhand political attack on AA by the military council, SAC, facing crushing defeats all over Myanmar.
“The fascist military council or SAC has imposed a total blockade on all the transportation routes into Rakhine – land, water, and air route – for over four months now, and in this situation, not even a single grain of rice or a pill of medicine can reach Rakhine. Besides, no ship is allowed to sail to or from Rakhine without permission from the SAC’s Ministry of Security and Border Affairs. All the ships that are allowed to sail (to Rakhine) are the ones controlled by SAC. Their claim that drugs were found on a ship sailing to Sittwe is illogical and contradicts the reality on the ground. It was yet another instance of the defeated SAC’s underhand political attack on AA” said U Khaing Thu Kha, AA’s spokesperson on his Telegram Channel in this Wednesday morning.
SAC’s propaganda media reported that their team arrested U Tun Thein Aung and his wife, Su Myat Wei at their home at #301, Sithmu 5th Street, Myittar Nyaunt, Tamwe Township on March21 for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
Since November 13 last year, 2023, when fighting resumed in Rakhine between Arakan Army and the military, SAC has imposed a complete blockade on roads and waterways into and out of Rakhine for nearly five months now and currently in Rakhine, SAC’s Navy has blocked all the waterways and no ship can sail around except for the ones with their permission.
Due to the tight and total blockade, there have been severe shortages of medicine, and prices for basic goods have been skyrocketing in Arakan.
