ARSA Group Shoots at Civilians in Maungdaw Township

AB News – June 23, 2024

It is reported that the ARSA militant group fired at civilians near Kyain Chaung Village in northern Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, at around 8 PM on June 21. The victims, who are from Kyain Chaung Village, were attacked on their way from Kyain Chaung to Laungdon Village by car, according to a source close to the victims who spoke to AB News.

The ARSA group attacked on the road from Nyang Chaung to Laungdon. We heard Muslim voices. It is believed that around 20 continuous shots were fired,” the source said.

In the Maungdaw Township conflict, ARSA, RSO, ARA, and Muslim extremists armed by the military council are involved. Local residents say some ARSA members have spread out in Maungdaw Township due to disagreements with the military council.

On May 27, a man from Khraing Myin Village was also killed by the ARSA group.

The ARSA group frequently kidnaps and kills local civilians in the Rakhine-Bangladesh border areas and demands ransom in addition to numerous murders and crimes committed in IDP camps in Bangladesh.
