11 children died of diarrhea in Pauktaw, Arakan, and more than 500 children are suffering from the disease

AB News – June 8, 2024

11 children under age 5 and 10 years old died due to contagious diarrheal disease in Pauktaw Township out of 500 children who have been suffering from diarrhea in Pauktaw Township.

Among them aged below 5 were 10 children and aged below 10 one died from the disease.
This report is being prepared based on the information of a resident.

Many children are suffering from diarrhea, including all ages of people including elderly people due to the use of contaminated water in Kuntan and Citke Pran villages respectively.

The people who are suffering from waterborne/ communicable diseases are alarmingly likely to have spread not only in Pauktaw Township but also all over Arakan.

A local told AB News “I think it is because of the infection which could rapidly increase. If in case of fail to intervene as early as possible, the deadly endemic could be broken.”

In addition, the military council blocked road communication which deterred the transportation of materials, especially food and medicine within Arakan and the rest of the county.

The locals requested through AB news to bring attention to the alarming situation in a township in war-torn Arakan to the international communities including UN agencies to intervene before the endemic outbreak.
