The military council has reportedly set up a military base at the district hospital in Maungdaw and issued an arrest warrant for incumbent medical personnel, Dr. Nu Kaythi San and Physician Dr. Aung Naing Lin.
They took control of the public hospital on March 4 to use it as their defensive position. The hospital was forced to close, and doctors and staff were forcibly evicted from the hospital.
A local resident told the AB News that the military council has issued an arrest warrant for the hospital superintendent, Dr. Nu Kaythi San and physician, Dr. Aung Naing Lin on March 25.
“We learnt that the military asked them to go and work at Sittwe Hospital but chose to shelter in liberated areas. Thats why, it seems, that the arrest warrant was issued.” He added.
Another local resident said that because the military has forcibly evicted all the medical staff and is camping at the hospital, it is very difficult for the people to receive medical treatment. Now that they are using the public hospital as a military camp, where will people go for treatment? This is a fascist act against the people he said.
The military has been targeting hospitals in Rakhine and elsewhere in Myanmar. On March 24th, at around 4:00 a.m, they bombed the subdistrict hospital in Kanhtaunggyi, Myaybon, and a 40-year-old hospital employee was hit by shrapnel and seriously injured.
In a similar attack on Min Phu Hospital, Minbya Township, on February 27 by aerial bombardment, some prisoners of war receiving medical treatment and hospital staff sustained shrapnel injuries.
Completely destroyed by the military aerial bombardment and artillery shelling were public hospitals in Ramree on February 20 and Pauktaw.
Currently, the Arakan Army is attacking the remaining bases of the military in Maungdaw Township, and the fighting is intensifying and becoming more fierce, local residents said.
On March 24, the Arakan Army (AA) announced that it has captured Ran Aung Myin military camp completely and Krein Chaung camp to some extent.
