Ko Kyaw Than Zan, brother-in-law of General Tun Mrat Naing, commander-in-chief of Arakan Army was arrested at around 3 p.m on 11th of March at the airport, it was learnt.

Ko Kyaw Than Zan, arrested at Yangon Airport, is the husband of Ma Moe Thit Sar who is the youngest sister of General Tun Mrat Naing, AB News has found out.

Ko Kyaw Than Zan is working as an engineer for 5-Star Shipping Enterprise, a Yangon-based state-owned company.

His wife, Ma Moe Thit Sar, told RFA in an interview that he was arrested at Yangon airport at around 3 p.m on March 11.

She said personally I dont think he was arrested on any charges because he had not committed any offenses. The only reason he was arrested was because I am a sister of General Tun Mrat Naing so he is a brother-in-law.

After arresting Ko Kyaw Than Zan, SAC had sealed off his familys apartment situated on San Yeit Nyein 2nd Street, Hledan, Yangon and also confiscated all the familys assets, according to Ma Moe Thit Sar.

SAC did not inform the family of his arrest and the family had not been able to find out where he had been detained.

His wife said in the interview that Ko Kyaw Than Zan had never been involved in politics but he was arrested when he came to meet with his family in Yangon.
